About Rayo del Sol, an off-grid eco project near Valencia
Rayo del Sol is a small off-grid eco project in the Valencian mountains, 40 minutes from the city. It has grown, slowly, into a place where people come to slow down, reconnect and live a little more simply, for a few days or a few months.
How it started
We began in 2013 with a hillside, a lot of ideas, and more energy than sense. Since then we have shaped the land bit by bit, following permaculture principles, into terraces of almond, olive and fruit trees, a garden of herbs, and a handful of simple places to stay. It all runs off-grid, on solar power and collected rainwater, with spring water from the village so there is never a shortage. Thirteen years on, it feels like a home that keeps growing.
The people behind it
Between us we are a psychologist and a social worker, and we built Rayo del Sol around something we both believe: that people heal and grow through real connection, with each other and with nature. That belief still runs through everything here, from the shared table to the quiet corners, and it is why the place stays small and personal.
What we believe
Rayo del Sol was built around a simple belief: that a slower, more sustainable way of living is genuinely possible, and genuinely good. We wanted a living example that people could come and stay inside for a while and see for themselves. Everything here grows out of that, from the solar panels to the long shared table.
Four words shape most of what we do here, and their first letters spell how we like to live: SLOW.
And we believe a place is only as good as the people in it, so we keep the community small and the welcome wide. Everyone belongs here, whatever your age or where you come from. Some of the best things happen once you put your phone down: a shared meal, a swim in a cold river, a conversation that runs on past dark.
The land at the heart of it
The land is the heart of the place. Worked on permaculture principles, it gives us almonds and olives, figs, grapes, apricots and walnuts, herbs all year, and wild greens after the rain. Support, if you want it
Because one of us is a psychologist, there is always someone to talk to if you want it. No programme, no pressure. For a lot of guests, just knowing the door is open is enough.
Community
The thing people remember is not really the pool or the sunsets, though those help. It is the feeling of being somewhere they can be themselves, among people who look out for each other. A lot of guests come back, and a lot of them stay in touch. Come as a guest, leave as family. That line gets used a lot, and here it happens to be true.

Getting here
Forty minutes from Valencia airport, and a world away
Rayo del Sol sits a 40-minute drive from Valencia airport and five minutes from the village of Alcublas, which has a supermarket, pharmacy, bakery, doctor and a few bars and restaurants, with a market every Wednesday. We are surrounded by almond fields and the Sierra Calderona natural park, so hiking and cycling trails, mountain rivers, waterfalls and hidden swim spots all begin close by. We can arrange a pickup by car, or point you to the local bus from Valencia.
