About us
Mission
Our mission at Rayo del Sol is to create a social ecological project that represents an ideal relationship between people and the environment we live in. We envision ourselves as contributors to our local community here in the village.
We want to set a clear example for others that sustainable living is completely possible (and is even much easier than it seems!). We want to generate income through education, demonstration, exchange, eco-tourism and community.
History
Rayo Del Sol is the passion project of a Northern European family who have a passion for social work and ecology. We have traveled the world extensively and are passionate about sharing knowledge.
We began searching for land years ago, and found this lovely community in the rural part of Spain in 2014. Our family loved it and all together we purchased the house. Immediately we began our work improving the land by planting fruit trees and giving the wild herbs and vegetables the chance to grow. The land had some older olives and almonds already planted, so we began with fruit trees such as peaches and pears, which were already fruiting in their second season! We are building a permaculture garden / food forest with the help of volunteers. We have many beautiful tomatoes and herbs, along with native flowers to attract bees and other pollinators. We started other construction projects soon after, including the tree house with slide to the swimming pool, our eco-toilet and our outdoor eco showers, all beautiful and sustainable, thanks to the help from our family, friends and volunteers. We are creating a children (& adult;)) paradise because we love to have children around.
We can host big families and groups. We are creating a wonderful atmosphere that inspires creativity and feels like home for all.
If you are in need to downshift your life and you want to try out the slow living, you are welcome to visit us as an individual, a couple, a family or a group. Everybody is welcome to enjoy a relaxing holiday.

Location
Rayo del Sol is located a 40 minutes drive from the airport of Valencia and a short 5 minute drive from the village of Alcublas, Valencia, Spain. In Alcublas you can find a supermarket, pharmacy, bakers, butcher, doctor, bank, bars and restaurants. The local market day is on wednesday.
Close to Rayo del Sol there are lots of hiking and cycling possibilities. There is a GR-route at 10 minutes walking through the national park Sierra Calderona. In Alcublas you can hike to the top of los Molinos or climb Peña Ramiro. In the surrounding you can find beautiful mountain rivers, waterfalls, a lake, white mountainvillages, castles, amazing beaches etc. Check our Facebook page for more information.

By bus

Our local bus company, Hispano Chelvana, runs to and from Valencia Estacion de Autobuses. The bus departs at the station in Valencia and the trip is only about one hour. Contact Hispano Chelvana by phone or email to make a reservation. When you arrive in Alcublas we can arrange a pickup service.

Languages
Here on the farm we speak many languages. Dutch is our first language, but we speak English, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, ... We will have no problem communicating with each other.
