Eco stays in the mountains near Valencia

There are five ways to stay at Rayo del Sol, from a room in the off-grid villa to a tent under the stars. Whichever you pick, you share the pool, the garden, the rooftop and the fire pit, and you wake up 40 minutes from Valencia but a world away from it. Come for a few nights, or stay on by the month.

The stays

The Eco Villa

The comfortable heart of the place, and a villa with a pool. Its three bedrooms sleep up to seven between them: Orisha and Emanuelle each sleep two, and Tanit sleeps three. Inside there is a big Mediterranean kitchen with everything you need to cook, a living room, a bathroom with a step-in shower, and a quiet corner for remote work. Outside, a patio shaded by grape vines wraps around it, and the rooftop terrace opens onto the whole valley. Child and pet friendly, with a cot for babies and bikes to borrow.

The Treehouse

Up in the trees with a double bed for two, looking out over the pool, and a slide that drops you straight into the water. About as close to being a kid again as the grown-ups get.

Glamping Tipis

Glamping near Valencia, in canvas tipis under the pines, sleeping up to four, open from April to October. A proper bed and the sound of the valley, with the pool, the gardens and the shared spaces just outside.

Tiny House Caravan

A snug one-person hideaway, for a solo traveller who wants their own little world.

Camping & Vans

Room to pitch a tent or park a camper, with eco-showers, an eco-toilet and the run of the shared spaces. We are on Park4Night and the vanlife maps, and it is the easy-going, self-contained way to stay.

Shared spaces

Wherever you sleep, the rest of the place is yours to share: the swimming pool, the permaculture garden with its terraces and shady corners, the rooftop terrace for sunsets and falling stars, the fire pit, the clay pizza oven, a meditation spot in the forest, and a garden full of ping pong, slackline, hammocks, swings and games. There is an outdoor eco-shower and eco-toilet, and the almond trees and mountain trails start right at the edge of it all.

How staying here works

Rooms and glamping have a five-night minimum, which is about the least it takes to settle into the pace. Campers and vans can come for less. We are 40 minutes from Valencia airport and five minutes from the village of Alcublas, which has a shop, a pharmacy, a bakery and a market on Wednesdays. There is wifi in the villa and communal areas, fine for a bit of remote work, and no signal out on the land, which most people come to appreciate.

Getting here

We're a 40-minute drive from Valencia airport and five minutes from Alcublas, which has a supermarket, pharmacy, bakery, butcher, doctor, bank, and a market on Wednesdays. Hire a car, or take the local bus from Valencia and we can arrange a pick-up for the last stretch. Tell us how you're travelling and we'll help with the final bit.

What's around

The Sierra Calderona natural park begins a ten-minute walk away, with a long-distance GR trail, the climbs up Los Molinos and Peña Ramiro, and hidden mountain rivers, waterfalls and a lake to find. White hilltop villages, old castles and the coast are all within reach for a day out.
