Come for the quiet.
Stay for the people.

Off-grid retreat and co-living in the mountains near Valencia

Rayo del Sol is a small off-grid eco project run on permaculture principles, in the mountains 40 minutes from Valencia. Some people come for a week to switch off and reset. Others stay for months, working remotely and living as part of a small, easy community. Either way you sleep with the windows open, eat under the almond trees, and remember what life feels like at a slower pace.

Who we are

A psychologist, a social worker, and thirteen years on the land

Rayo del Sol started in 2013, when we set out to build a place where people could slow down and reconnect, with each other and with nature. We are a psychologist and a social worker, and over thirteen years we have turned this hillside into an off-grid home for guests, remote workers, volunteers and passers-through. We keep it small and personal.

Digital detox

Put the phone down. The valley will take it from here.

Out here the notifications stop mattering. No screens pulling at you, no rush, just long days outside, early nights under a sky full of stars, and the kind of quiet that lets your nervous system unwind. Give it a few days and you will notice it first in how you sleep.

Support, if you want it

There is a psychologist on site, so if you feel like talking something through, or you just want space to reflect, that is here for you. There is no programme and no pressure. It is simply part of what makes Rayo del Sol a safe place to land.

Remote work & co-living

Off-grid, but never out of reach.

You can work from here. There is a quiet co-working corner in the villa, wifi that handles video calls for a handful of people, power from the sun and water from the spring, and a community to share dinner with when the laptop closes. It suits remote workers and digital nomads who would rather have focus and nature than a busy coworking hub. Stay by the week, or move in by the month.

The permaculture project

The permaculture project is the reason the rest of it works

This is an eco project run on permaculture principles. Over thirteen years the land has grown into terraces of almond, olive, fig, peach, apricot and walnut trees, with grapes, plums, cherries, pears, apples and berries, thyme and rosemary all year round, and wild asparagus, garlic and greens after the rain. It runs off-grid on solar power with batteries, collects its own rainwater for the house and garden, and is connected to the village spring water too, so there is never a shortage. Guests are welcome to walk the land, taste what is in season, and lend a hand in the garden if they wish to.

Group holidays & retreats

Take the whole place for your group

The whole of Rayo del Sol can be yours for a few days or a week. It suits a family gathering, a group of friends, or a facilitator looking for a quiet place to hold their own retreat. You get all the accommodation, the pool, the gardens and the shared spaces. If you want, we can add yoga sessions, dinners cooked for you, time working on the land, or some quiet support from the psychologist on site. Send us a note and we will put together what works for your group.

Volunteering

Work, learn, stay a while

If you would rather trade time than money, you can join us as a volunteer on Workaway terms: around five hours a day, five days a week, in exchange for a bed and shared meals. For longer stays we often work out something gentler, fewer hours in return for reduced rent. Spaces are limited and fill quickly, so get in touch early if this is calling you.

Getting here

Forty minutes from Valencia airport, and a world away

Rayo del Sol sits a 40-minute drive from Valencia airport and five minutes from the village of Alcublas, which has a supermarket, pharmacy, bakery, doctor and a few bars and restaurants, with a market every Wednesday. We are surrounded by almond fields and the Sierra Calderona natural park, so hiking and cycling trails, mountain rivers, waterfalls and hidden swim spots all begin close by. We can arrange a pickup by car, or point you to the local bus from Valencia.

What's around

The Sierra Calderona natural park begins a ten-minute walk away, with a long-distance GR trail, the climbs up Los Molinos and Peña Ramiro, and hidden mountain rivers, waterfalls and a lake to find. White hilltop villages, old castles and the coast are all within reach for a day out.

Trade the noise for the mountains

Whether it is a few days to switch off or a season to live differently, there is room for you here.
